THE STORY BEHIND AMELLE

A tribute to my grandmother

Amelle was created in memory of my grandmother, whose knitting was always defined by richly textured fabrics made with nothing more than knit and purl stitches. She showed me that even the simplest stitches can create something truly beautiful.

The name Amelle is a blend of her name, Angelė, and Mutka, the nickname our family lovingly called her. Mutka came from my little sister, who, as a child, couldn't pronounce the Lithuanian word Močiutė (“grandmother”) and called her “Mutka” instead. The nickname stayed with us for the rest of her life.

Combining Angelė and Mutka into Amelle felt like the perfect way to honour both the woman she was and the love she shared with our family.
